Welcome to Dahlonega, Georgia, the premier wedding destination in the North Georgia Mountains. We know you are going to love spending time here.

Please enjoy this tour to help you become familiar with the area. Dahlonega and Lumpkin County are rich with history, culture and scenic wonder. You will be amazed at the variety of interesting things to do and places to visit. Our historic downtown area is full of unique shops, galleries and restaurants, and is home to one of the best community theaters in the Southeast, The Historic Holly Theater. Lumpkin County is in the heart of wine country, and our tasting rooms present a wonderful selection of local and regional wines.

Head out to the country, and you will find many bed and breakfasts, vineyards and wineries, waterfalls, and hiking trails. Over a third of the land in Lumpkin County is part of the Chattahoochee National Forest, so you will find extraordinary views as you drive to your destination. The Appalachian Trail begins just South of Lumpkin County, at the Amicolola State Park, and winds its way North all the way to Maine.

Busy Street

Writers have written about the land in Lumpkin County for centuries, because of it's beauty. In the early 1800s, the First American Gold Rush was right here. This changed the history of Lumpkin County, and evidence of the rush can be found in gold mines, the Gold Museum, and in nearly every building around the Square. You can still pan for gold, and often you will see gold prospectors in the streams. The Gold Museum recently released its second film about the history of the gold rush, and you can tour their facility every day. We have a full calendar of events year round, and our festivals are wonderful tributes to music, arts, crafts, history and literature.

Here, we will take you on a photo tour of Dahlonega and Lumpkin County. But if you would like more information, please stop by our Welcome Center and Visitors Bureau, located conveniently on the town Square.

Historic Courthouse

At the center of Dahlonega's Historic Square sits the grand old courthouse, which now houses the Dahlonega Gold Museum. This State Park is one of the most visited sites the State of Georgia offers to its residents and visitors. All around the Square you will see historic markers, identifying buildings that are now on the National Registry for Historic Places. The marker on the North side of the Square states that it is part of Dahlonega history and tradition for brides and grooms to walk around the Square 3 times, to ensure good fortune in their marriage.

Jamming on the Square

Jamming on the Square is a great Dahlonega tradition. Every Saturday during the Spring, Summer, and Fall pickers from everywhere gather together on the Courthouse lawn and treat everyone to the sounds of Appalachian music. Dahlonega is proud to be home for many musicians, and gathering together on the Square is a tradition that everyone enjoys!

Romantic Carriage Rides

Take a carriage ride around the Square, and you will be sure to have a romantic moment!

North Georgia College and State University

North Georgia College and State University is just off the Square, and home to the Price Memorial Building. This building sits on the same land that was home to the US Mint, which operated in Dahlonega during the Gold Rush that took place here in the 1800s. Price Memorial is in the center of this photograph, with its gold steeple pointed proudly towards the mountains.

Commitment to Preservation

Dahlonega is proud of its history, and receives commendations for our commitment to preservation and respect for its beauty. Building owners and merchants are diligent in their attention to detail, resulting in beautiful photo opportunities.

Where Lumpkin County meets Union County

Heading out of town, you will come across beautiful mountain views that have been written about for centuries. Shown here is the view from Woody Gap, where Lumpkin County meets Union County.

Floating in the Currents

On any given day during the summer, you will see plenty of folks dipping into the Chestatee River, floating in the current. There are a lot of fun things to do in Dahlonega, and this is certainly one of them!

The Appalachian Trail

For all the hikers out there, the Appalachian Trail runs right through Lumpkin County. This photo was taken by Jack Anthony, from the AT.

A special Thank You to Jack Anthony for all the amazing photos of the Dahlonega Area!
